Shadow Over Volfsten
Volfsten is a land both beautiful and treacherous. It is a realm of vast, open tundra surrounded on both sides by towering, snow-capped mountains: the Jagged Peaks crown the eastern horizon, and the Giant’s Club range lies to the west. Between these two mountain ranges are wide open tundra, rocky foothills, shimmering cascades, and endless forests. Volfsten is a vividly beautiful land to behold in the summer, but its beauty belies the perils that await the unprepared traveler: savage wolves, ferocious bears, towering frost giants, armed highwaymen, wild elves, brutish dwarves, and the dreaded frost worm. Perhaps, above all, Volfsten’s weather is its greatest hazard. It can change in a matter of hours, bringing booming thunderstorms, frigid windstorms, damaging hailstorms, and seemingly endless blizzards. In winter, travel becomes nigh-impossible. Exposure to the elements is sure to bring a swift death to the ill-equipped. During the worst of the winter months, village clerics often find themselves flooded with patients, all victims of frostbite and hypothermia.
