Shadow Over Volfsten
The town of Asvallhem is fortified by a thick, wooden palisade wall to keep out the monsters of the Great Western Wood. The town’s Earl, Kyrin Mykavel, is paranoid of the evils that lurk in the woods – and with good reason. The terrifying beasts of the Great Western Wood have terrorized Asvallhem in the past, but now that the town has erected a wall, encounters have become far less common.
Asvallhem is a quiet town, and not many visitors come through its gates. The people of Asvallhem are wary of outsiders, and few among them will treat travelers with kindness. Half-elves are unusually common in this village – the elves of the nearby Great Western Wood sometimes mingle with the humans of the plains.
Asvallhem is famous for its blacksmith, Mulzhennedar, a half-dwarf with an uncanny talent for his craft. Mulzhen is the only smith capable of forging “black steel”, his signature craft. He guards the secret to black steel closely, and rumor has it that only he and his apprentice know how to craft it. Black steel is known for its resistance to fire.
